John Chalfin is the current Hamilton County Coroner. He served as a deputy Coroner under Thurl Cecil from January 2008 until he took office on January 1st 2015. John and his wife, Ellen, have been married for 31 years. They have resided in Noblesville for that time. Ellen served as a Speech Pathologist in the Noblesville School System for 41 years. A son Jon A. Chalfin (deceased) and a step-son Andrew K. Richardson, and his wife, Cameran, along with a grandson Graham complete the family. John has held a number of positions including Chief Operations Manager for an area manufacturing facility, Plant Manager, Director of Productivity Programs, Plant Engineering Supervisor for Chrysler Corporation, Maintenance Supervisor, and as a skilled tradesman. During his career John has been recognized with several awards. John was presented with EMT of the year at Lawrence Township Fire Department and as EMT of the Year at Cicero Fire Department as a volunteer. Other recognition includes an award as EMS Primary Instructor of the Year for the State of Indiana, the David J. Edwards award and as the outstanding Instructor of the Year for Ivy Tech. Ivy Tech presented John with both the President’s Award and the prestigious Glenn Sample Award for excellence in Instruction. John’s education includes a degree in Industrial Electrical Technology from Terra Technical College, an Associate degree in Paramedic Science from Ivy Tech Kokomo, a Bachelor’s degree from Indiana University, and graduation from an apprenticeship program as a Journeyman Electrician, and Certifications as a Hard Hat Commercial Diver, and a Master Scuba Instructor. Prior to his involvement with industry, John served in the U.S. Navy as an Electrician. In his role as Coroner, John completed the Coroner Training program for the state of Indiana in 2008, and has since maintained his training through the annual Coroners Training Conference. Additionally, he has completed both the Coroner’s Training program at Saint Louis University and the Master’s Course at the same institution.
